The venerated statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, crowned with the Christ Child

Located on the historic Ursuline Academy campus, this national votive shrine houses the centuries-old statue brought from France in 1810 by Mother St. Michel. New Orleanians have prayed here through fires, hurricanes, and the Battle of New Orleans — Our Lady of Prompt Succor is the principal patroness of both the city and the state.

Spiritual significance

The shrine commemorates two miracles: the 1812 fire that spared the convent and the American victory at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, both attributed to Our Lady's intercession.
