A Gothic Revival masterpiece recently and beautifully restored, St. Stephen has anchored Uptown faith life for over 170 years. Its soaring nave, German stained glass, and ornate altars reward slow looking.

Spiritual significance

One of only a small number of minor basilicas in the United States, St. Stephen holds a place of distinction in the universal Church — recognition of its history, architecture, and continued pastoral life.

A Prayer of St. Stephen

Lord, as you opened heaven to your first martyr Stephen, open our hearts to see your glory in this place. Make us bold in love and gentle in witness.
