The sanctuary of St. Mary's Assumption Church, home of the Seelos Shrine
Father Seelos served German and Irish immigrants in New Orleans and died caring for yellow fever victims in 1867. Today pilgrims come for the relics, for blessings with the mission cross he carried, and for the quiet of the side chapel where his remains rest.
Spiritual significance
Many healings are attributed to Seelos's intercession. His cause for canonization continues; he is a Blessed of the Church and a particular friend of the sick.
